It seems the government can't stop giving money away at this time of crisis, but this one has solid foundations and ethical rewards.
Until March 2021, you can claim a voucher of up to £5,000 or 2/3rds the cost of "greening" your own home. Anyone can apply, and if you're on benefits, you can claim up to £10,000 in government cash. To do what I hear, you shout.
To make your home greener through such improvements as:
Cavity wall insulation
Air and ground source heat pumps
Biomass pellet heating systems
And if you start with the significant improvements, you can then move onto claiming more money to do secondary measures such as triple glazing and so on.
So all mortgage advisers, make sure your customers are aware of these, since they may want to re-mortgage to raise the additional cash to finance the improvement. Or if you're advising a later life borrower, make sure you let them know about this alternative means of raising money instead of equity release. Because the MCOB rules say you have to, and it's the right thing to do as well.
